Surveys that Matter: Increasing Response Rate and Data Presentation Tips

Surveys are an excellent way to gather important feedback; however, it can be challenging to gather responses. Being deliberate in designing a survey and knowing how the results might be most effectively presented can increase your response rate and help you share the results in an effective way. Surveys can help institutions/organizations make informed decisions and be used as assessment tools or for benchmarking purposes. Join us to learn how to make savvy surveys that increase your response rates. Bios:

Kim Hurst – Program & Project Specialist, University of Minnesota-Duluth

Kim Hurst is the Program and Project Specialist for the University of Minnesota Duluth’s International Programs and Services office. She oversees the financial and administrative operations of International Partnerships, Recruitment, Study Abroad, and UMD’s U.S. Department of State Passport Acceptance Facility. Additionally, Kim serves on the Academic Affairs Support Unit Change Team that works to advance equity, diversity, inclusiveness, and social justice within the campus community. Kim earned her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Spanish & Latin American Studies from UW-Green Bay with minors in International Business and Accounting.


Karen Wardzala – Associate Director of Finance & Business, Georgetown University

Karen Wardzala (She/Her), MA, MBA, has been working in the field of international education for more than 20 years, primarily
in the areas of student services, academic advising, program and partnership development/management and financial management. Early in her career, Ms. Wardzala spent more than 10 years working in Italy and she currently holds the position of Associate Director of Finance and Business in the Office of Global Education at Georgetown University. She is professionally proficient in Italian and fully understands the challenges and expectations facing students participating in study abroad programs as well as those faced by faculty leading programs and teaching abroad. Ms. Wardzala has been an active member of HEIBO since 2017, presenting at several conferences and she
currently serves as Secretary of the HEIBO Steering Committee.
